Proper leash walking is one of the most neglected behaviors of all. It seems like I get a call or email every day from people with this problem. Most dog walks are actually being lead by the dog. If your dog is dragging you down the street. If they are all over the place smelling, marking, and playing, you probably need a session with me to teach you and our dog proper leash walking. Dogs should always walk in heal position on your left side with no tension on the collar or leash. Taking your dog for a walk is an exercise in leader follower relationship. It’s not play time or just to go potty. It is a time for a structured pack walk creating trust and respect from your dog.
